ABOUT KIPP OKLAHOMA CITY

KIPP Oklahoma City (KIPP OKC) is part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory charter schools with a track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life.

Together with families and communities, KIPP OKC works to create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence they need to pursue the paths they choose–college, career, and beyond–so they can lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world.

KIPP Oklahoma currently educates over 1,000 students and supports hundreds of alumni. Today, the KIPP Oklahoma network consists of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools (grades 5th—12th) and KIPP OKC Public Schools (in SY ‘25-’26, will educate students in grades PreK—1st and 6th—8th). KIPP OKC Public Schools is growing one grade yearly until it is a full PreK—8th-grade program.

ABOUT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEADER ROLE

KIPP OKC seeks a proven relationship-centered school leader to drive academic and character outcomes for students. The incoming Middle School Leader will focus most of their time on instructional leadership, especially leading and developing teachers to improve instruction and drive student achievement. The MSL will also play a vital role in developing a pipeline of future School Leaders, creating systems and culture for the ongoing school staff development, and modeling expectations for a positive learning culture.

Reporting to the KIPP OKC Director, Teaching and Learning, the Middle School Leader leads students, staff, culture, and school-wide vision and goals for 6th through 8th grade. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who relentlessly and fearlessly pursues a more equitable education system to meet the needs of OKC students.

Primary Responsibilities

Additionally, lead the analysis and development of teachers and instructional coaches to ensure a collaborative, data-informed school system that moves students toward mastery.
  • SCHOOL MANAGEMENT: Ensure high-quality 6th-8th academic and cultural experience for students through direct management and coaching of the Middle School Leadership. Develops leadership capacity in others and grows an emerging leader via KIPP’s performance management cycle.
  • SCHOOL TALENT & CULTURE: Build a school culture that values joy, equity, and high performance, prioritizes observation and feedback, drives lessons with data, and results in exceptional achievement gains for children. Additionally, develop the systems and structures to hire and retain diverse, highly effective staff and lead the hiring process.
  • EDUCATIONAL EQUITY: Promote educational equity (equitable outcomes and processes) as a guiding principle across the entire school network and ensure it is reflected in curriculum, instruction, and assessment systems.

Desired Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a principal role with a record of achieving outstanding academic and social results for students from historically under-resourced communities or populations; senior school leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing and/or coaching school leaders to drive student academic and social results through observation, feedback, progress monitoring, and continuous self-development and learning.
  • Experience narrowing the student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and economic groups; experience as a principal manager or principal advisor strongly preferred.
  • Ability to set a clear academic vision and aligned priorities, develop strategic plans, and empower others to achieve them.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in exceptional people leadership and management with success in leading others to close learning gaps for students, particularly between subgroups and special populations of students who are often the most marginalized (including special education, English language learners, etc.).
